台灣隊伍雖人數較少,但在中位數(Median Score)表現突出,展現高水準與穩定性;馬來西亞隊伍則以人數優勢展現廣泛成績分佈,並在部分項目取得最高分。
2025 I-NMC Competition Overview and Category Analysis
This year's I-NMC featured three unique competition categories designed to comprehensively test the mathematical abilities of the participants:
Category X (Mathketeers): Conducted in teams of three, this category required solving nine open-ended subjective questions within 60 minutes. Group discussion and the use of calculators were permitted, testing teamwork and in-depth problem-solving skills.
Category Y (Theory of Everything): An individual competition where participants had to answer 20 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. Calculators were prohibited in this section, emphasizing a broad knowledge of mathematics and logical reasoning.
Category Z (Running Math): A highly challenging individual timed event where contestants had to complete 100 calculation-based questions in just 20 minutes. The winner was determined by achieving the highest accuracy in the shortest amount of time, testing both calculation speed and precision.
The competition covered a wide range of topics, including Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Polynomials, and Probability and Statistics, providing an excellent platform for participants to showcase their comprehensive skills.
Competition Results and Analysis
The competition attracted many talented math enthusiasts, with a total of 181 entries from approximately 60 participants. The Malaysian team was large, with 69 participants in Category X, 46 in Category Y, and 48 in Category Z. In contrast, nine students from Taiwan registered, participating a total of 18 times across the categories (6 in Category X, 8 in Category Y, and 4 in Category Z).
Statistical data from each category revealed different strengths and characteristics for each side. Although the Taiwanese team was smaller, it excelled in the median scores across all three categories, indicating that the "typical participant" from Taiwan demonstrated a very high level of skill and consistency. In comparison, the larger Malaysian team showed a wider distribution of scores and achieved the highest scores in some categories.
The competition's highest honor was the "Iron Math" Overall Championship, with the winner determined by a weighted score from the three categories: 30% from Category X, 40% from Category Y, and 30% from Category Z.
In this final showdown of comprehensive strength, Malaysia ultimately won the "Iron Math" Overall Championship, demonstrating their well-rounded and outstanding mathematical prowess.
Successful Conclusion and Future Outlook
The 2025 I-NMC was not only a fierce intellectual battle but also a successful international academic exchange. After the competition, students and faculty from both sides took photos together, creating a wonderful memory of this collaboration and expressing mutual hopes for more exchange opportunities in the future.
The successful launch of the inaugural International-National Mathematics Competition has written a new chapter in the collaboration between UTAR and Tunghai University, setting a new benchmark for future international math competitions.
